(UPDATE: July 30, 2017 @ 12:10 p.m.)

The Elephant Hill Wildfire is expected to see some growth a result of recent hot and dry conditions, combined with strong winds.

According to Fire Information Officer, Rosalie Macaulay, the last estimated size of the fire was 70,387 hectares, which does not include growth from fire activity on Saturday, July 29th.

There are currently 357 firefighters, 108 structural protection specialists, 20 helicopters, 69 pieces of heavy equipment, and an incident management team at the scene.

Night crews were working on the fire throughout the night. An update on fire growth and activity will be available later in the afternoon, Sunday, July 30th.

Due to aggressive fire behaviour, Macauley said that a portion of Highway 97 was closed, and evacuation orders were expanded.

(UPDATE: July 30, 2017 @ 7:00 a.m.)

A rapidly moving wildfire currently located in Electoral Area “E” continues to threaten properties in the areas south and east of Green Lake, as well as 70 Mile House.
