As of 1:30 p.m. on Friday, August 11th, the province of B.C. is prohibiting all public access to the backcountry in Cariboo region.
The ban applies to all Crown land throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre, which covers from Clinton up to Quesnel.
"All crown land will be closed to public access due to the extreme fire danger and amount of fires in the region," said Kevin Skrepnek of the BC Wildfire Service.
"Persons must not enter a restricted area without written permission, however this does not apply to commercial operators or commercial business."
Exemptions have been made for emergency services, farmers, as well as off-road use on private land or at national parks.
Otherwise, any off-road vehicles found in the off-limit areas of the backcountry will be issued a violation ticket of $767.
If the violation results in a wildfire, the person maybe ordered to pay all firefighting and associated costs.
The ban will be ongoing until September 5th.
