'Highly visible' wildfire sparks near Summerland

BC Wildfire Service is reporting a new fire that has sparked to the west of Summerland.

The Bear Paw Creek fire is currently recorded at one and a half hectares in size located 11 kilometres west of Summerland.

Crews, air tankers and helicopters were enlisted to action the fire.

Although the fire isn't currently threatening structures or homes, BCWS reported the fire is "highly visible" to nearby communities in Summerland, Peachland as well as residents and travellers moving between Princeton and Summerland on Highway 40.

The cause of the fire's ignition has not been determined, but Fire Cause and Origin personnel are on site investigating the fire.
