(UPDATE September 28th @ 9:30a.m.) — A small wildfire that was discovered near Lac Le Jeune and Hull Hill early this week is under control as of last night.
The wildfire is 0.65 hectares in size and has not seen any growth since it was located 15 kilometres south of Kamloops on Monday.
"We don't have any crews on it yet today mainly because, now that it is under control, the main focus will be patrolling for any hot spots, which is done intermittently," said fire information officer Rachell Witt.
"I'm not sure when crews are heading out but that is the activity that will be taking place from here on out."
The wildfire was originally suspected to be the result of a lightning strike, but it is now believed to be human caused.
(Original story September 26 @ 4 p.m.) — Crews are tackling a wildfire that was discovered south of Kamloops on Sunday. The Hull Hill wildfire is estimated at 0.65 hectares in size and burning 15 kilometres south of Kamloops between the city and Lac Le Jeune.
BC Wildfire information officer Max Birkner said six firefighters were on site last night and again today. Initial reports were received Sunday, but the fire was located Monday night. It is considered out of control.
“It was originally suspected to be lightning caused but there has been some revision of that,” Birkner said. “They did send out a fire origin and cause team to check it out a little further.
“It was showing Rank 2 and 3 fire behaviour yesterday but right now there hasn’t been a need for more firefighters.”
The fire is not currently threatening any structures.
