The Thompson Nicola Regional District is hoping to help landowners who suffered losses during B.C.’s most devastating wildfire season with the recovery process.
More than 210 structures, including cabins, homes and other buildings were lost in the TNRD during the summer’s wildfires and, while the regional district took immediate steps to help with the cleanup process, it’s hoping to assist with continued recovery and rebuilding.
The TNRD has hired a recovery manager to coordinate efforts and the board is considering a possible reduction of or sourcing alternative sources for permit fees, accelerating application processing, potential new zoning for dry cabins and lobbying the provincial government for relief and building code changes.
In the coming weeks, recovery manager Bob Finley will be reaching out to residents whose properties were affected, the TNRD said in a media release. He will be guiding them through the process and answering questions.
Property owners who were affected by floods or wildfires this summer can also contact Finley directly with questions about the rebuilding process at 250-377-6296 or [email protected].
