From Finance to Real Estate: How Lisa Lock Found Her Voice and Purpose
In a recent episode of Women in Leadership, host Nikki Csek sat down with Lisa Lock, CEO of Stober Group, to talk about her career journey, passion for building communities, and the importance of staying true to yourself. From starting her career as a receptionist to now leading a major real estate company in Kelowna, Lisa’s story is filled with both determination and inspiration.
Lisa’s entry into real estate was not a straight path. “I graduated high school not knowing exactly where I wanted to go,” she shared. With a passion for finance, Lisa pursued a path in accounting, working in several roles until she was introduced to a Certified General Accountant (CGA) who changed her perspective. “She inspired me in so many ways that I thought, I want to be in finance,” Lisa recalled. Enrolling in the CGA program, she diligently worked through the coursework and started to see a future in the financial world.
But it wasn’t just numbers that drove her. A creative side began to emerge. Lisa and a friend decided to take a break and embarked on what she calls their “Grand Tour” across Europe, visiting England, Scotland, France, Italy, and Switzerland. The trip ignited something new in her, pushing her to combine her creative and analytical skills. “It blasted me open to another way of thinking,” Lisa said. Upon returning, the two started their own company, Revelop Group, blending their unique skills to help developers redevelop historical properties.
Her journey took a new turn when she was offered a role at Concert Properties, where she spent the next 15 years. “I started as a development manager and moved up to Vice President of Development,” Lisa shared. She credits her advancement to her constant passion and forward-thinking approach. “When you show up every day with excitement, looking forward to where we could improve and grow, it ignites everyone around you,” she added.
Today, as CEO of Stober Group, Lisa has embraced a philosophy that sets her apart: infusing authenticity and soul into every project. “When you have a chance to infuse a project with heart and soul, people feel it,” she explained. For Lisa, it’s about more than just the numbers—it’s about creating places where people truly connect and feel at home. This approach has not only shaped her professional success but also influenced her personal decisions.
In 2016, she made the life-changing move to Kelowna, seeking a better work-life balance. With three young boys and a bustling career, Lisa needed a lifestyle shift. “Living in Vancouver and working on a large project while raising three kids was exhausting,” she confessed. Moving to Kelowna offered the balance she needed, allowing her to continue her career while prioritizing her family.
Lisa’s advice to young professionals, especially women, is to always bring their authentic selves to the table. “Don’t be afraid to put your heart into things and maintain that open heart through it all,” she encouraged. Her journey is a testament to the power of following your passions and staying true to yourself, no matter the twists and turns along the way.
With her story, Lisa Lock reminds us all that success is not just about where you end up, but about staying genuine and passionate throughout the journey.
