Tune Into a Fun local Hiking Series

Since most people have more time on their hands an outdoorsy local Okanagan couple decided to document their daily hikes on their Instagram and Facebook.

Currently, they have 16 episodes of various hikes they have been doing over the past two years.

They hike the trail system of Upper Smith Creek in West Kelowna every day and thought it would be fun to share their adventures with the world on Instagram and Facebook daily at 7 pm.

They really enjoy making them and they have had a lot of encouraging feedback.

Let us know what hikes you enjoy doing in the Okanagan!

SEW the COVID-19 Cure

After the fabric ran out of a network of Kelowna seamstresses, Cindy a retired real estate agent and Laura a recovering lawyer realized their talents were in philanthropy, not sewing.

That is how they came up with the initiative BUY THE BOLT, a not-for-profit Facebook fundraiser which raises money to purchase materials for Okanagan sewing groups to make critically-needed masks for donation to essential, front-line workers in our community.

The backgrounds of the hundred-plus seamstresses stitching this protective gear vary, from women laid off work and retirees, to small business owners.

We are humbled!”

Cindy Wagner says, “In only three weeks, BUY THE BOLT has raised over $4,500. With those funds, we’ve purchased in excess of $3,600 worth of fabric and notions, which to date has been transformed by the sewing networks into 680 masks. We’ve donated to organizations like Karis Support Society, Habitat for Humanity, The Salvation Army, The Central Okanagan Food Bank, Emergency Support Services, John Howard Society and Lakeshore Place Seniors Home. It’s heartwarming how compelled the community is to help and how incredibly grateful these organizations are to receive masks for their volunteers and employees.”
