Ways to lower your energy costs while working from home

On a typical day when heading out for work, we shut off all the lights, unplug necessary appliances and lock the door behind us.

But since you are working from home, a lot more electricity is being used than normal.

Here are some ways in which you can preserve electricity and keep your electricity bill lower as you work from home.

Soak up some sunshine

Instead of turning all of your lights on to illuminate your workspace, opt for moving your workspace near a window to let the natural light in.

Try to get most of your work done during daylight hours to save even more electricity.

Crack open the window and absorb some much-needed Vitamin D after a long winter.

If the weather allows it, you can even move your workspace to your deck or patio.

Handwash your dishes

If you have more time on your hands, opt for washing your dishes by hand instead of using your dishwasher.

Not only does a dishwasher use significantly more water, but it will also save you a lot of electricity in the long run.

Especially if you live at home this is a great option since you most likely don't have enough dishes to fill an entire dishwasher.

Dress warmer

Instead of cranking up the heat while you're cold working at your desk, opt for a warm sweater and some cozy sweat pants.

Avoid turning on your baseboards as those tend to use a lot of energy while heating your home.

Drink warm beverages like tea and coffee to stay warm.

Switch out your old light bulbs

Make sure that all your light bulbs are switched to energy-efficient LED bulbs, by doing this you can chip off quite a bit of money from your electricity bill.
