NFL playoffs round three preview and predictions

And then there were four...

Just four teams are left in the NFL playoffs and not surprisingly it's four of the best quarterback in football.

I didn't do as well in my predictions last week, but my Superbowl LI prediction of Atlanta vs New England is still alive (even though I predicted Seattle to beat Atlanta last week for some reason...)

This weekend's Championship games promise to be absolute classics and they could very well be shootouts with the four quarterbacks that are left.

Wildcard Round Results

Prediction Actual result
Oakland 23 - Houston 21 Houston 27 - Oakland 14
Seattle 24 - Detroit 9 Seattle 26 - Detroit 6
Pittsburgh 33 - Miami 13 Pittsburgh 30 - Miami 12
Green Bay 34 - New York 30 Green Bay 38 - New York 13

Divisional Round Results

Prediction Actual result
Seattle 27 - Atlanta 20 Atlanta 36 - Seattle 20
New England 38 - Houston 10 New England 34 - Houston 16
Green Bay 31 - Dallas 27 Green Bay 34 - Dallas 31
Kansas City 22 - Pittsburgh 19 (OT) Pittsburgh 18 - Kansas City 16

NFC

(2nd) Atlanta Falcons vs. (4th) Green Bay Packers - Sunday @ 12:05 p.m.

A photo posted by Green Bay Packers (@packers) on

The first battle of the quarterbacks features the likely league MVP in Matt Ryan against the hail mary king in Aaron Rodgers.

Green Bay forgets what it's like to lose at this point and have to be feeling about as confident as you can get with Rodgers leading the way.

Atlanta, on the other hand, has been a consistent powerhouse all year and should have some extra motivation playing their final game in the Georgia Dome.

This game may very well come down to which defense steps up to make a big, gamebreaking play.

Both teams had major defensive struggles during the regular season, but it seems like those issues have been figured out and they're holding their own in the playoffs.

Prediction: Atlanta wins 38-35

AFC

(1st) New England Patriots vs. (3rd) Pittsburgh Steelers - Sunday @ 3:40 p.m.

New England continued their tear through the NFL with a big win over Houston last weekend and I don't see them stopping now, even at the hands of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Steelers are just as hot as Green Bay, having won nine straight games since losing to the Dallas Cowboys on November 13th, but nobody is stopping Tom Brady and Bill Belichick in their quest to have Roger Goodell sheepishly hand them the Lombardi Trophy on February 5th.

The Patriots defense will be in tough trying to stop the dangerous trio of Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown and Le'Veon Bell, but they've shown over the last number of weeks that they are one of the best units in the NFL.

On the Steelers side of the ball, they'll need those three playmakers to step up in a huge way if they want to pull of the upset at Foxborough.

They could also use career games from the ageless James Harrison and their young defensive leader Ryan Shazier to keep the Patriots high flying offense in check.

Prediction: New England wins 30-20
