The West Kelowna Warriors name their new captain

It may be the off-season, but things are still happening for the West Kelowna Warriors.

The team named their next captain on Wednesday and it’ll be a familiar name wearing the ‘C’.

Jared Marino will serve as the team’s captain for the upcoming season, two years after his older brother captained the team to a RBC Cup win.

Marino is one of just two players left on the team from that 2016 squad with the other being defenseman Jake Harrison.

“I’m honoured to be named captain for such a great organization and am confident that we can once again be an elite contender,” stated the Warriors new captain. “I have played for West Kelowna for two years now under great leadership and I know I can also be a strong captain and role model on and off the ice.”

Marino has played 99 career games with the Warriors, earning six goals and 29 points over that span.

The 6’3”, 205 lbs forward has also played in 39 playoff games for the Warriors, including that lengthy run to a national championship.

“Jared has all the qualities that great leaders possess, he’s a good person, good teammate and always gives 100%,” said Warriors head coach and GM Rylan Ferster, “Having been with our program through the RBC Cup, he has gotten the opportunity to be around not only a great leader and captain like his brother, but many solid leaders. He will represent the program on and off the ice like a pro.”

The Warriors will name the rest of their leadership group before main camp gets underway in late August.
