Canucks deal Michael Del Zotto to Ducks

The Vancouver Canucks made a minor trade on Wednesday.

It happened during the team’s home game against the Edmonton Oilers and was announced to fans on the Sportsnet broadcast.

Michael Del Zotto was dealt to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Luke Schenn and a seventh-round pick in the 2020 NHL entry draft.

It’s a minor trade, but 10 years ago this would have been considered quite the noteworthy move.

Both Schenn and Del Zotto were first-round picks in the 2008 NHL entry draft, as Schenn was taken fifth overall by Toronto and Del Zotto went 20th overall to the New York Rangers.

Del Zotto had fallen out of favour in Vancouver and had been a healthy scratch for much of the season.

The deal gives him a fresh start in Anaheim, while also opening up a spot for the Canucks to activate Elias Pettersson from the injured reserve without sending anyone to the minors.

Schenn will report directly to the Canucks’ farm team, the Utica Comets.
