Rockets acquire veteran forward before trade deadline, Stancl stays put

The Kelowna Rockets sent a 2025 ninth-round draft pick to the Everett Silvertips in exchange for Andrew Petruk.

The 19-year-old has played in 117 games over three seasons with Everett, totalling 15 points and 195 penalty minutes.

“We had an opportunity to add an older player that has a physical presence,” said Rockets President and GM Bruce Hamilton.

“We chose not to fill our final 20-year-old spot and this move helps us add an older forward to our younger group.”

The Surrey native has also appeared in nine playoff games and has one career postseason point.

While there was some chatter online of a potential trade involving Jakub Stancl, the Rockets forward was not moved before Thursday's trade deadline.

Stancl, who can return to the Rockets next season, leads the team with 32 points and is coming off a third-place finish with Czechia at the World Juniors.

The forward finished the tournament with seven goals and 10 points.

The Rockets are back in action tonight as they host the Prince George Cougars before travelling to face the Vancouver Giants on Saturday.
