Rockets recall a pair of players including top prospect Barrett

The Kelowna Rockets announced a pair of recalls on Monday afternoon.

Defenceman Lachlan Staniforth and forward Eli Barrett have received the call from the WHL club and could suit up for the Rockets this weekend.

Staniforth has already played in a pair of games with Kelowna this season and saw action in two games last season as well, which included one playoff matchup against the Wenatchee Wild.

The Abbotsford native has spent most of his time with the Chilliwack Jets of the PJHL, the equivalent of the Kelowna Chiefs and KIJHL, this season.

The blue liner has impressed at the lower level with five goals and 14 points in 21 games.

For Barrett, it’s the first WHL call-up for the 16 year old who was Kelowna’s top draft pick, 26th overall in the second round, in the 2023 WHL prospects draft.

In 17 games with the Yale Hockey Academy U18 Prep program this season, Barrett has nine goals and 15 helpers for 24 points.

If Barrett gets a chance to suit up for the Rockets this weekend, his WHL debut could come as early as Friday in Kennewick against the Tri-City Americans.

He also has a chance to take his rookie lap in front of the home fans on Saturday afternoon when the Wenatchee Wild come to town for Teddy Bear Toss night.
