The Okanagan Mission Huskies combined for four individual titles and four team wins at the first Central Okanagan School Athletic Association cross country running event of the season.

Jacob Harris led the first-place senior OKM team with a win in the Grade 11-12 boys six-kilometre race at Mission Creek Regional Park on Wednesday. The Grade 11 student covered the course through the rolling Sutherland Hills in 22 minutes 49 seconds, while the runner-up was Huskies teammate Turner Woodruff who crossed the finish line 30 seconds later. Third place went to Kelowna Secondary’s Dayton Bath (23:22).
OKM’s Eli Harris nailed down top spot in the Grade 7 boys four-kilometre event with a time of 15:05 and the Huskies also claimed the team division title. Jack Bermel of Dr. Knox Middle School placed second among the 22 runners in the category with a time of 15:52. KLO’s Nicholas Mitchell ran to third place, posting a time of 17:16.
Tatum Wade of Okanagan Mission edged Ava Graf of Dr. Knox for the Grade 7 girls title and led her team to first place overall in the division. Wade ran the four-kilometre course in 15:47 while Graf came in at 15:54. Third place among the 22 runners went to Jada Leung of OKM (17:14).
The 4K Grade 8 girls division title went to Ella Rolleston, of OKM who led the field of 12 girls in 15:18. Rachel McInnes and Sophia Clarke of KLO finished second and third respectively with times of 16:40 and 17:07.
OKM won its fourth team crown in the junior girls (9-10) division, placing three runners in the top 10. Leading the way was Isis Darossa, who posted a time of 15:55 over four kilometres. Jaxon Slaney of Rutland Secondary won the race in 15:10 and third place went to Danielle Selby of KLO Middle.
Taryn O’Neill of the George Elliot Coyotes raced to first overall among all the girls on the four-kilometre course and won the senior girls (11-12) event in 14:27. Second place went to Mt. Boucherie’s Makenna Jensen (15:38) while Willow Benitz of Aberdeen Hall finished third in 16:05.
The junior boys division had Jasper Stone of Aberdeen Hall lead a field of 20 with a first-place time of 19:37. Baili Guidi took second place in 20:02 and Michael Denman of KSS finished third (21:03).
Springvalley Middle School won the Grade 8 boys team title, led by Ethan De Kruif’s second-place time of 15:00 over 4K and a third-place finish by Oliver Willmott (15:23). Joel Worman of KLO Middle won the individual title with a clocking of 14:39.
The Mission Creek race, attracting 155 runners, was the first of four regular-season events leading up to the Central Okanagan zone championships at Crawford Estates on Oct. 19 and the junior and senior Valley championships being held at the Telemark cross country ski area on Oct. 25.
The B.C. championships will also be held at Telemark on Nov. 5.
