The Okanagan Sun extended their winning streak with a dominant 66-3 victory over the Valley Huskers at the Apple Bowl Saturday night.

Quarterback Josiah Joseph led a 64-yard drive to open the game, capped off by an 11-yard run by Dillon Fortune for the game’s first touchdown.

On the ensuing kickoff, Keagan Hughes made a big hit on the Huskers’ kick returning, forcing a fumble. Tyler Geisler recovered the loose ball and ran it 17 yards for a touchdown to give the Sun an early 14-0 lead.

In the second quarter, rookie quarterback Keith Zyla connected with rookie receiver Terrance Williams for a 57-yard touchdown, the first touchdown for both of their junior football careers.

Receiver Kyle Patchell caught two touchdown passes, and Pierre-Luc Lord also had a reception for a touchdown. Braden Mann and Abdi-Nasier Abdi added rushing touchdowns for the Sun.

Joseph completed 15 of 18 passing attempts for 238 yards and three touchdown passes. Zyla completed two passes on six attempts and threw one touchdown pass. The Sun also picked up 279 yards on the ground, led by 89 yards by Fortune.

Defensive back Raquille Cespedes also added some offence, returning an interception for a 47-yard touchdown.

The Sun’s defence was outstanding.

They held the Huskers to one first down in the first half, and only six first downs in the game.

The Huskers finished with 71 yards on the ground and 63 through the air. The only points scored came on a 32-yard field goal as time expired.

In the two games this season, the Sun have outscored the Huskers 130-3. Okanagan has won 28 of 29 meetings all-time between the two teams.

The Sun remain atop the B.C. Football Conference standings as the lone undefeated team with a 5-0 record.

The Sun will travel next Saturday to take on the Langley Rams. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m.
