Kelowna Heat To Represent B.C At Western Canadian Ringette Tournament

The Kelowna Heat will convert to Team BC next week in Richmond.

Winners of the B.C. U19A ringette title earlier his month, the Heat will represent the province at the Western Canadian U19A championship tournament at the Richmond Oval and Minoru Stadium.

Missing: Sheri Pineau (manager) and Zach Wynn.The Heat, undefeated five games at the provincial tournament in Delta, will take on the best in their division from Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba beginning March 24.

Backed by the outstanding goaltending of Jordan Reynolds, the Heat defeated Richmond 3-2 in the B.C. Ringette Association provincial final. Sam Weigel scored twice and Morgan Evans added a goal in the title game.

Earlier, the Heat, coming off a gold-medal performance at their own Kelowna Sweetheart tournament in February, registered wins over Fraser Valley (7-2 and 4-1) in provincial round-robin play, while defeating Richmond 3-0 (Reynolds posted the shutout) and playing the same team to a 3-3 draw.

The Heat will meet Manitoba in the opening game of the Western Canadian tournament March 24, while taking on Saskatchewan later in the day. Alberta and host Richmond will the Heat's opposition on March 25.

The top team in the round-robin earns a bye, while the second and third place teams play in a semifinal on March 25. The gold-medal game is set for later in the day.
