Although assured of a 15th straight trip to the B.C. School Sports senior AAA field hockey championship tournament, the Kelowna Owls aren’t resting on the guarantee.

This weekend, the Owls are in Victoria for the prestigious Bridgman Cup tournament on the turfs at the University of Victoria with the hopes of showing they belong among the top-ranked teams in the province.

Boucherie Bears on Tuesday at Mission Stadium. Fourth-place finishers last year at provincials while playing with 10 Grade 10 students, the Owls have most of the players on the 2015 roster back to make a bid for a provincial medal. The KSS squad is still young, with eight Grade 10s, eight Grade 11s and only one Grade 12 in the lineup.

In their opening two Okanagan Valley regular-season games, KSS dominated the Penticton Lakers and Mt. Boucherie Bears and won by lopsided scores. It’s almost a foregone conclusion the Black and Gold will defending their title at the Valley championship tournament Oct. 29 at Mission Stadium in Kelowna.

Members of the team, coached by Arnar Bernhardsson and Brian DeMug, are Grace Fecht, Lonika McKinney, Deziree Day, Julia Costa, Holly McGarvey, Leanna Wong, Grace DeMug, Hannah Phelan, Zoe Brown, Kaitlyn Kruger, Katarina Czenczek, Payton Hinks, Isabelle Seifert, Natalie Hope, Hannah Rimland, Summer DeGuevara and Ashley Kowal.
