Kelowna's Ana Large podiums in GS provincials

Kelowna’s Ana Large of Apex Ski Club proved her athleticism among the top female alpine skiers in BC at the U14 Provincial Championships on March 17th to 19th at Big White Ski Resort.

Large snagged silver medals in both GS races at the event.

Eighty-two Females and eighty-six males from across B.C. gathered at Big White for the event. Inconsistent and variable weather made for hard-packed and fast snow conditions.

Large displayed incredible athleticism in her first GS run of the series after recovering from a near crash and positioned herself in fourth place.

A picture perfect second run moved her combined time of 1:53:25 to second place and earned her the first of two podium visits of the weekend.

Teammate Noa Rogers of North Vancouver recorded the fastest combined time of the day at 1:50:77 and earned gold medal status.

Sun Peaks Racer, Brynn Applegath of Kamloops had a combined time of 1:53:53 and secured the bronze medal spot.

Kiera Swift of Big White Racers finished in 16th position with a time of 2:02:20 and also earned the ‘Most Improved” medal of the day.

The second day of the GS series saw more bad weather, with thick fog, strong winds, rain and hail.

But Apex Ski Club teammates Ana Large and Noa Rogers persisted and continued to dominate the race, claiming first and second place in the province for the second day in a row. Rogers’ time of 55:18 and Large’s time of 56:88 gave them a significant lead on Whistler Ski Club’s Sarah Steel, who secured third place with a time of 58:07.

Big White Racer Anna De Wynter had a 13th place finish with a time of 1:00:31 and also earned the “most improved" medal of the day.

Kelowna’s Adam Fricska claimed a 10th place GS finish on the final day of the series.

Ana Large has had an outstanding 2017 season claiming podium finishes in every race series she has attended. The Western Canadian Championships takes place at Silver Star Mountain on April 7th to 9th, followed by the International Whistler Cup 2017 as the final event of the season.
