Okanagan hockey fans will be disappointed to learn that the annual Young Stars Tournament will not be returning to Penticton this September.
Hosted by the Vancouver Canucks, the tournament consisted of top rookie talent from the Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers and Winnipeg Jets.
However, in recent years, teams have begun to pull out of the Penticton event and attend other young stars tournaments in Alberta and Ontario.
“The Vancouver Canucks are grateful to the city of Penticton and its fans for their support of the annual Young Stars Tournament since its start in 2010,” read a statement from the Vancouver Canucks.
“The tournament will not take place in 2019 due to a lack of participating NHL teams however, options for future Young Stars tournaments in Penticton continue to be explored.”
NHL stars such as Elias Pettersson and Brock Boeser had attended the event.
