Quartet of new Canucks expected to make their Vancouver debuts tonight

After trading JT Miller to the New York Rangers on Friday, the Vancouver Canucks quickly made another trade and acquired a pair of players from the Pittsburgh Penguins, growing the list of new Canucks to four.

The Canucks acquired defenceman Marcus Pettersson and forward Drew O'Connor in exchange for Danton Heinen, Vincent Desharnais, the rights to Melvin Fernström and a conditional 2025 first-round pick, which was acquired from New York in the Miller trade.

“We wish both Danton and Vinny all the best in Pittsburgh and thank them for their contributions this season,” said GM Patrik Allvin.

“We are really happy to add to the depth of our team with the acquisitions of Marcus and Drew. Marcus has good size, reach, and makes solid decisions with the puck while Drew is an intelligent player with versatility and a bigger frame.”

Pettersson has appeared in 47 games for the Penguins this season, tallying 18 points and 25 penalty minutes.

The defenceman has 491 NHL games, 151 career points and 294 penalty minutes on his resume.

O'Connor has 66 career points in 210 games with the Penguins. The 26-year-old scored 33 points in 79 games last season and has 16 points in 53 games this year.<who> Photo Credit: Pittsburgh Penguins/X

Pettersson and O'Connor are expected to be in the lineup for Sunday’s match against Detroit. Filip Chytil and Victor Mancini, who were acquired in the team’s trade with New York on Friday, are also expected to make their debuts with the team.

“We got a couple extra players obviously coming in here tonight. They'll be ready for the game tomorrow (Sunday) and we'll hopefully galvanize the group here,” Allvin said to Canucks staff.

“I thought we had some good games here over the last week, and I think this team has shown, when we're playing in the right way and playing to our identity, that we're a hard team to play against.”

Puck drop is slated for 5 pm at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.
