For the last week, the Kelowna Curling Club has been taken over by emergency personnel but not for the reason you may be thinking.
Over 10 teams of firefighters from across Canada have been competing in the annual Canadian Firefighters Curling Championships — fostering camaraderie, healthy competition and impressive athleticism.
The travelling tournament stops in cities all over Canada, and welcomes over 40 of the best fire fighting curlers in their respective leagues to compete against peers for the championship title.
“We have fun together, whether we are fire fighting or curling, and if you mix the two together it is always fun.” said Rick Euper, chairman, BCFFCA — Okanagan.
For 2019 the 60th anniversary of the Canadian Fire Fighters Curling Association (CFFCA) returns to the birth province of the Association.
“It is nice to come back to Kelowna and back to BC because the association started 60 years ago, and the founding father is from BC,” said Allen Sutherland, president of the CFFCA.
Curlers have been battling it out since the opening reception on March 16th, and the competition is set to come to a head on Saturday afternoon with the championship game slated for 1 p.m.
Spectators are welcome to join in on the fun and take in the final game.
