Rob Mellof (Stolairus Aviation) and Rob Koffski (Raymond James) showed in Week 12 why they’re at the top of the Kelowna Molson Super League of Curling standings.
The two veteran skips led their rinks to lopsided victories at the Kelowna Curling Club and remained two points up on the third-place Bruce Clark foursome, which also came away with an easy win.
A steal of four in the first end set the tone for Koffski (8-4), who added another four with the hammer in the fourth end on the way to a 9-1 victory over Adam Cseke (4-8) and his Edward Jones crew.
Mellof and his rink of Neil Cursons, Keith Anderson, Mark Thomse and Trevor Bloom looked good right from the start, and with a draw for three in the fourth end, found themselves up 5-1 on Randi Ludwar and the World Financial Group team, fresh off an appearance at the B.C. women’s championship in Victoria.
With its back against the wall, the Ludwar quartet tried to battle back, but gave up a steal of three and shook hands early in an 8-2 defeat.
Sturgeon Hall (Skip - Gary Brucker) 7 vs Foothills Creamery (Skip – Ken Johnson) 3.
A tight game that saw Sturgeon Hall up 4-3 after six ends when they broke the game open with a huge three-ender to post the victory over Foothills Creamery.
Sunset Ranch (Skip - Bruce Clark) 7 vs OK Business Alliance (Skip – Steve Wright) 3
OK Business Alliance made some great shots early to keep the game close at 3-3, but Sunset Ranch made two superb final shots in the sixth end for a three and then stole a single in the seventh for its sixth win in 11 starts.
Artesano Cabinets (Skip - Wes McInnes) 7 vs Acorn Dental Group (Skip – Justin Nillson) 3
A close game that saw the score tied 3-3 after five ends. Acorn Dental Group stole deuces in the next two ends for its fifth win of the season.
