Record-setting provincial X-C championships for Telemark skiers

A record 62 members of the host Telemark Nordic Club teamed up for 19 top-three finishes at the Teck B.C. cross country ski championships recently.

Double-gold performances by Finn Redman (bantam boys 2 classic and free events) and Philip-Maynard Davis (junior men’s 1 classic and free)— were among the highlights of the weekend races that attracted a record 660 athletes from throughout Western Canada and Washington State.

Garrett Siever also skied to provincial gold in the midget boys classic event and added a bronze in the free technique while Telemark’s Ian Mayer claimed gold in the juvenile boys free after a fifth-place finish in the classic and Cole Turner raced to gold in the junior boys 1 classic event.

“There was a lot of snow. At this rate, our athletes should be able to ski through most of May,” remarked Paul Shipley a volunteer coach at Telemark.
