Team Okanagan brings home 7 medals from International Adult Figure Skating Competition in Germany

The Okanagan was well represented at the recent ISU International Adult Figure Skating Competition.

The event, which was held in Oberstdorf, Germany from May 14-18, featured 771 skaters representing 34 ISU member countries, including 68 skaters from Canada.

Team Okanagan consists of members from West Kelowna, Kelowna and Lake Country who range from 46 to 77-years-old.

That Okanagan contingent managed to bring home an impressive seven medals from Germany.

Mt. Boucherie Skating Club’s Donna Bergvinson struck gold with with a personal best score of 27.24 in the Bronze Ladies IV Free Skate and added a silver medal in the Bronze Ladies IV Artistic event.

Isabella Ciocoiu, who skates out of the Kelowna Skating Club, also won a pair of medals. She picked up a silver in the Silver Ladies III Artistic event and a bronze in the Silver Ladies III Free Skating event.

In the Silver Ladies IV Artistic and Free Skating events, Maureen Barnes brought home a pair of bronze medals.

Completing the Okanagan’s medal haul was Winfield’s Wendy Ord, who picked up a bronze in the Bronze Ladies III Free Skating Event.

Corinne Macasso, Henrietta Penney, Lesley Ricci and Karen Smith all skated well and had impressive performances, but were unable to find the podium against stiff competition.

This year’s event was the 14th annual of this particular ISU competition, which is open to adult skater between the ages of 28-80.

Team Okanagan will be featured in a CBC documentary that’s expected to be released in January 2019, and you can view the trailer below!
