Members of the Penticton Vees are going to have a very early wakeup call this morning as they prepare for a very rare morning game as part of the Bauer British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) Showcase tournament that begins Thursday morning in Chilliwack.
The Vees will battle the Surrey Eagles in a game that begins at 10 a.m.
After splitting their two-game Vancouver Island road trip last weekend, the Penticton Vees (1-2-0) continue their string of six-straight games away from the South Okanagan Events Centre (SOEC) to begin the season.
The Bauer BCHL Showcase runs Thursday through Saturday.
The Vees were in Victoria against the Grizzlies last Saturday evening dropping a 4-3 game.
Lukas Sillinger, Luke Loheit and Ryan Sandelin scored for Penticton.
The Eagles meanwhile are still searching for their first win of the season. Playing the Chilliwack Chiefs, the Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period, only to see it slip away in a 4-2 loss.
In the 2017-18 regular season, the Vees went 2-0 against the Eagles with a 7-1 win at home before skating to a 5-3 win on the road.
On the road, Penticton found themselves trailing 3-2 after 40 minutes before Owen Sillinger tied the game just 28 seconds into the third with a shorthanded goal. Michael Campoli gave Penticton the lead and Dakota Boutin hit the empty net for the win.
The last time the Vees had a 10 a.m. game at the BCHL Showcase was during the 2016-17 season against the Langley Rivermen. Penticton won 6-4 thanks to a hat trick from Owen Sillinger.
Due to the early start time there will be no broadcast of the game on EZ Rock AM 800, but the game is still able to be viewed online at www.hockeytv.com.
