A WHL game was called off just over a minute into the second period on Tuesday night following a frightening incident that hospitalized a Tri-City Americans player.
The Americans were hosting the Seattle Thunderbirds in Kennewick and trailed 2-0 after 20 minutes of play. Only 1:05 into the middle frame, veterans Terrell Goldsmith and Ashton Cumby dropped the gloves at centre ice for a fight.

Each player got a couple of shots in before Cumby landed a hard right that appeared to knock the Americans forward unconscious.
Goldsmith crumpled to the ice and unfortunately landed dangerously on his face, triggering immediate concern as trainers from both teams rushed to his aid.
Due to the severity of the "medical emergency," the WHL decided to postpone the rest of the US Division matchup and it will be completed at a later date.
This morning, the Americans provided an update on Goldsmith, saying he remains in hospital today under observation.

“Upon arriving at the hospital last night, he was awake, responsive and in good spirits,” the update said. “The Tri-City Americans appreciate the words of concern and support for Goldsmith.”
The club promised to continue updating the 19-year-old’s status as information becomes available.
Goldsmith is a veteran of 241 WHL games, spending his first four seasons with the Prince Albert Raiders before being traded to Tri-City last summer.
He was drafted 102nd overall by the Arizona Coyotes, now the Utah Hockey Club, in 2023.
