The West Kelowna Warriors announced on Tuesday that defenceman Kyle Koopman would be joining the Providence Friars of the NCAA for the remainder of the 2018-19 season.
The 20-year-old joined the Warriors 16 games into the season after coming from the Waterloo Black Hawks of the United States Hockey League (USHL). He played 18 games with the Warriors, compiling eight assists in that time.
“The loss of Kyle Koopman will not only be felt on the ice but in the dressing room as well,” said Warriors Head Coach and General Manager Geoff Grimwood, “It hurts our team right now but this league is about progressing these men on to the next level. We believe Kyle is more than ready for college hockey right now and we want to wish him the best of luck in Providence.”
West Kelowna begins life without Koopman tonight as they battle the Coquitlam Express at Royal Lepage Place for their only visit of this season.
Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m. with tickets available at the box office or online.
