Southern Interior expected to be hit with severe thunderstorms

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for much of the Southern Interior, including the Okanagan Valley, Shuswap, Similkameen, and South Thompson regions.

Thunderstorms are expected to develop across the Interior today and there is a potential for some of these storms to become severe. According to Environment Canada, the main concern is for heavy downpours, however, large hail and strong wind gusts are also possible.

Severe thunderstorm watches ar issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce large hail, damaging winds and torrential rainfall. Residents are reminded that heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water to pool on roads.

Kelowna is expected to reach a high of 33 C on Tuesday, Kamloops 32 C, Salmon Arm 30 C and Vernon 33 C. For the latest information and updates, check the Environment Canada website.
