Boaters urged to take caution as wind gusts could reach 70 km/h today

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement that could strike some fear in Okanagan boaters.

It looks like more thunder and lightning could be on the way into the Okanagan Valley and some heavy winds may come along with it.

“Conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms over the Shuswap and Okanagan area today,” reads the special weather statement.

“These thunderstorms have the potential to produce winds gusting up to 70 km/h.”

As such, recreational boaters are being warned to prepare for these strong winds and exercise caution on the lakes.

It looks like today will be the end of this stormy stretch in the Okanagan, however, at least according to NowMedia meteorologist Wesla English.

“A drier trend is ahead as weak high pressure will build in on the weekend and bring the return of warmer conditions with sun in the mix for Saturday and Sunday,” she explained.

Daytime highs will remain in the mid 20s for today, but get warmer in time for the weekend.
