"Light snow has arrived over the southern Avalon Peninsula and will spread to the Northern Avalon including the St. John's metro area by noon. The snow will become increasingly heavy this afternoon and persist through this evening before tapering off around midnight," says Environment Canada.

The Burin Peninsula and Clarenville region should expect to receive 15 to 25 cm of snow. Bonavista Peninsula is expected to see 10 to 20 cm.

The Avalon Peninsula North is expected to receive 30 to 40 cm of snow. Snow will continue throughout the evening and will be paired with strengthening winds. Strong northeasterly winds are expected to shift to become strong northerwesterly winds.

Gusts may be reaching 120 km/h along parts of the coast.

The fresh snowfall combined with strong winds will result in near zero visibility.

Conditions will begin to improve around midnight.

Travel during this time will be extremely dangerous due to low visibility. The Weather Network is advising everyone to postpone non-essential travel until conditions improve.
