It’s only mid-September, but the early signs of winter have arrived.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for much of the Southern Interior, calling for snow at higher elevations.

“We expect the first taste of winter at higher elevations this morning in central and southern B.C.,” the statement says. A cold front over (the) southeastern interior will exit the province this morning.”
The cold air in the wake of the front is expected to hang around for the next week.
While snow still won’t be seen at lower elevations for at least a couple more weeks, commuters could start to see some flakes on the mountain pass highways.
However, even on the higher roadways there won’t be more than a few centimetres and with road temperatures still warm from a long hot summer, it’s not expected to stick.
Highway drivers would still be wise to prepare for winter driving conditions as soon as possible.
Winter tires become mandatory for most interior highways on October 1st.
