Spring has sprung but Edmonton is about to break a cold weather record

If you have friends in Edmonton, send them your condolences.

Alberta’s capital is about to break a 43-year-old record for days below zero.

Tonight will most likely be Edmonton's 167th consecutive day with the temperature falling below 0°, which will make for 167 straight days below freezing.

That will officially break the record set between 1974-1975 when the city went 166 days with below zero temperatures.

Since Oct 29th, when we hit 0.0°, we haven't gone 24hrs without being below zero. The closest we've come is -0.2° on Dec 15th, 2017.

Best of all? The dubious record will be set on Friday the 13th.
