The Okanagan could get winds up to 70 km/h on Friday

Hold onto your hat, the wind is coming our way on Friday.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for multiple regions across the B.C. Interior, including the Okanagan Valley.

The statement calls for winds with gusts up to 70 km/h on Friday afternoon as a cold front passes through the region.

“A vigorous cold front is expected to sweep across the Interior on Friday. Strong southwest winds with gusts up to 60 km/h are expected ahead of the front on Friday afternoon,” reads the statement.

“Stronger northerly winds with gusts up to 70 km/h or more are anticipated once the front passes on Friday evening.”

Environment Canada is encouraging recreational boaters to stay off the lake on Friday afternoon and evening.

Boat owners should also prepare their boats for the strong winds, as recent storms have caused boats to come loose from their moorage.
