Sometimes life happens and just when you think you’ve got everything under control, you stop and go “Oh crap! Halloween is tomorrow!” Does this sound like you? Well never fear, I’ve compiled a list of easy last minute costumes you can put together from things that are probably already in your closet. This will also be helpful if you’re looking for a cheap Halloween costume, as cheap and last minute kind of go hand in hand here.
Sherlock Holmes
All you need for a Sherlock costume is a trench coat, some boots and some kind of prop, like a pipe or a magnifying glass.
Lumberjack
For a simple lumberjack costume, just grab an oversized flannel shirt, jeans, work boots and a toque. Depending on what you are doing for Halloween, you could bring an axe, but it’s probably safer to make one out of cardboard.
Hippie
If you’ve been up on the trends this year, you’ve probably got some hippie pants or a crochet vest kicking around in your closet. Pair these with a headband and some long beaded jewelry for a totally rad look, man.
Sandy
Classics never fail to impress on Halloween. Pair some black skinny jeans with a black tank or t-shirt and red shoes. This could also be a fun costume to do with a friend, one of you can go as “good” Sandy and the other as “bad” Sandy. For good Sandy, pair a simple summer dress with a cardigan and sensible shoes.
Anchorman
For this costume all you need is a suit and a good hairstyle. And many leather bound books.
Character from a TV show
This one is so easy because chances are, your favorite TV character wears clothes similar to the ones in your closet. You may have to explain your costume to people, but at least you have a costume.
Scarecrow
All you need for this is some sweatpants, a loose long sleeve top and some straw. You can find straw at craft stores like Michael’s. Face paint is optional, but always a good time.
Pyjama Party
The best, and warmest, last minute costume idea. I know you’ve got a onesie somewhere in your closet, pop that thing on and hit the town as a pyjama party goer.
Ghost
Check out The Salvation Army to find some sheets for the easiest costume you could possibly come up with. Sheets also work well for a Greek god/goddess costume, and if you find some pastel coloured sheets, you can always go as a marshmallow peep.
Cat
Dress in black and pop on some ears. Paint that face up with some whiskers and you’re good to go.
