Two weeks ago I shared some women's style tips for nights out, so I thought I should follow it up with some going out style tips for men. Although I've never seen a man at a club with his bits hanging out (thank God), there are a few fashion faux-pas' that I've seen around Kelowna. For example, work out clothing is not an appropriate outfit to wear out to a club for men, either. This week I've compiled a list of a few things for men to keep in mind when getting ready to go out to a club.
- As I've already said, no work out wear. You're not on your way to the gym, and I really hope you're not coming straight from the gym either. I know it gets sweaty in clubs too, but that doesn't make work out gear appropriate. You want to look like you at least put a little bit of effort into your outfit, and your gym clothes are not showing the right kind of effort. Please just put some real clothes on.
- That being said, don't wear your nicest clothes. Don't wear something that was really expensive, or that's dry clean only. It's going to be sweaty in the club, and chances are someone is going to spill something on you at some point in the night. It's best to wear something that won't leave you heartbroken if it gets ruined. You want to look like you dressed up a little bit, but you also need to be realistic about what's going to happen at a club.
- Wear clothes that fit. Anything that's too small is going to make you uncomfortable and ruin your evening, and anything that's too large is going to make you look sloppy. Buy your size, not the size you want to be, and get your pants hemmed if they're too long.
- Do not, under any circumstances, wear sunglasses. You're indoors. You don't need them, and you've just made yourself look like the biggest creep in the bar.
- No sneakers, either. You're not Jerry Seinfeld. Any shoe that gets better with age like vans, an oxford shoe, moccasins or boots are a safe bet. Basically anything that isn't white is a good choice.
- Do a little research about the club if you're not sure what to wear. As far as I know, there aren't any clubs in Kelowna that have strict dress codes, but some clubs do. Do a little bit of googling or check out the clubs Facebook photos so you can make sure you're dressed appropriately for the specific venue.
- Simplicity is your best friend; if you’re going somewhere fairly casual go for dark jeans, a basic t-shirt and some nice shoes, and for somewhere a little more formal opt for a neutral button up shirt and nice pants. You'll fit in just about anywhere.
