Kelowna Pet Resort Furever Home Finder: where are they now?

Since July, KelownaNow has paired with Kelowna Pet Resort and the Kelowna SPCA to bring you ‘Furever Home Finder.' This series has been committed to putting you in touch with lovely, charming and energetic canine and feline friends from across the Okanagan.

Much to our delight, since we’ve posted these articles many of our friendly feline and charming canines have been adopted and are currently living life to its fullest.

With the festive season upon us and all the joy and merriment that comes with it, we thought our KelownaNow readers would enjoy a recap!

Molly

You might remember Molly. She was a beautiful German Shorthaired Pointer and Labrador cross. Due to an unfortunate accident, Molly had two broken legs. Since we posted her story in September, Molly has found a loving home with an owner who takes great care of her

“Molly has settled in really well,” said Jennie, Molly’s owner. “She loves checking out the squirrels and quail that come into the garden. She really enjoys walks, where there are plenty of smells for her to track. She always has her nose to the ground. She loves chasing and catching balls and finding hidden treats. In the evening her favorite place is curled up on the sofa or on the rug in front of the fire. She is really doing well with her training games, although she hasn’t quite got the idea of what a mat is! She is still very lovable and does have a mischievous streak, for example, she loves to sneak my shoes when she thinks I’m not looking! Plus, she’s always pretty pleased with herself for doing so. Everyone who has met her thinks she is a lovely dog and I couldn’t agree more. She’s great company!"

Riggins

Riggins was a favorite among our team and our readers. Something about his cheeky name and charming spirit simply drew us in! Riggins was adopted by the lovely couple Bryan and Keelee in August, and has since been having the time of his life!

“Once we met Riggins and saw him we instantly fell in love!” said Bryan and Keelee. “He ran right over to us, rubbed up against us and gave us kisses; right then we knew he was going to be a part of our family. Our first little road trip home was great, he loves to stick his head out the window and look at everything in sight!”

Since we brought him home, he's been to White Rock beach and dipped his paws in the ocean, and he has even been camping to Loon Lake. He enjoys car rides, running around freely in the field just by our house and playing fetch (which he is very good at)! When he gets excited he taps his front paws really quick and spins or runs in circles, mostly when he knows we're about to go on a walk. He sticks by our side, is extremely comical, cuddly, affectionate, loyal and has an endless supply of kisses.

We're looking forward to his first winter at home, to play in the snow and to spoil him on Christmas. We're very excited to see what the future has in store for our little family!"

Blaze

As his name indicates, when we saw Blaze our hearts soared for this little guy! His energy and intelligence truly enchanted us. I actually remember sending an email to my boyfriend with the caption “I’ve found the one!” Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be for us, but he’s made the perfect partner to Blaze’s new owner!

“It was love at first site for both of us, sealed by a big lick from Blaze when I asked if he wanted to come home with me. I adopted him on the spot!”

“Blaze is happy, healthy and learning fast. He is a wild man in the woods on hikes but is always back to my side in a heartbeat. He even loves trap shooting and goes after those broken clays soon as I let him. Living up to his name (passion of the spirit), Blaze has bonded quickly and loves to go, do and learn all the time!”

“We have certainly had our challenges to overcome. But I am just as tenacious as him and today is always a new day. So we try, fail and pick up again until our goals are met. He's doing fairly well on his leash now, especially for a big boy who would rather pull and chase squirrels (now he's learning to sit and stay calm, like pointing, instead of trying to pull my arm out of the socket). He likes to play catch with multiple balls at once, learns new tricks in record time, and even has a "play school" toy he loves to solve problems on (like unlock or pull the drawer) for treats not to mention numerous other puzzle toys. As for other dogs, has a great daycare he goes to twice a week making friends big and small. As for people and kids, never a problem other than death by slobbering licks.

I am so very grateful for his love and companionship. My life is in a better place because of him and the joy he brings!”
