Shady Rest British Fish and Chips at 1359 Sutherland Avenue is celebrating their 80th Anniversary this year and are proud to share this meaningful milestone with the community. For eight decades, this local, longstanding business has served customers, built lasting relationships, and contributed to the local economy. Present owners Keri and Darran Cawood feel honoured to have been part of that history. The Cawood family has owned and operated the business for the past eight of those 80 years. In that time, they worked hard to uphold the values of quality, service, and community connection that has defined the business across generations. They have, over the years, employed many family members, with Shady Rest always at the heart of their family. As the Cawood’s reflect on this milestone, they were also facing a difficult and deeply personal decision. Their son, Alex, had planned to take over the business and continue its legacy. Tragically, he passed away unexpectedly two years ago. His loss has profoundly changed their path forward, and after much consideration, they have decided to offer the business, including the building for sale. The decision was not made lightly, and they hope to find new owners who will appreciate the history, relationships, and reputation that has been built over 80 years, and who will carry the business into its next chapter with care and dedication. They would like to extend their sincere gratitude to their customers, staff and community, both past and present, for their support throughout the years, and especially during their time as owners. kericawood@gmail.com

Kelowna Industry and Trades Day (Formerly North End Community Day) is Saturday, May 2nd, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Bring the family to explore the businesses and community of Kelowna’s North End with family friendly activities. This event, organized by Bernie Ryan of FPS Fluid Power Solutions, is to raise money for JoeAnna’s House and to showcase the trades and promote the North end businesses as a place with good jobs and careers. This is a unique opportunity to see the inside of businesses that are not normally open to the public and to show children a possible future in trades and other careers. Let them try their hand in a mini excavator; crush stuff in the press, get their face painted, try out the indoor water park and watch the robotic welder in action. A few of the participants are FPS Fluid Power Solutions, Okanagan Street Food, Emil Anderson Group, Waterplay WEKID, Fripp Warehousing, Multi-Power Products, Urban Harvest Organic Delivery and Crown West Steel Fabricators. There will be members from the RCMP, COSAR, BCEHS and Okanagan Forest Task Force onsite. A minimum donation of $20.00 per family is appreciated. Check out www.makrgroup.com/kelowna-
