Loaves and Fishes Book & Church Supply at 591 Lawrence Avenue is celebrating both a milestone and change marking 50 years of faith and service in Kelowna. For half a century, a modest storefront in our city has carried a mission far larger than commerce. It reveals a place that has become not only a Catholic bookstore, but a refuge, a ministry, and a spiritual crossroads for the Interior of B.C. Founded in Rutland by Colin Scott in1976, the business was later acquired by Annette Lieb and her family. The Scott’s chose the name Loaves & Fishes as they were beginning the store with limited resources and hoped it would grow to serve the church in the B.C. Interior. For more than 30 years Loaves and Fishes have been owned and operated by Paulet Isaacs and her family, serving the faith community with dedication and care. Now, in July, the store will enter a new chapter as ownership transitions from Paulet Isaacs to new owner Tony Ibrahim. The business will continue to operate under the name Loaves and Fishes Book & Church Supply. Tony relocated from Alberta to Kelowna in August 2021. Before relocating, Tony worked with Yum! Brands Canada and later owned and operated several Pizza Hut restaurants in Alberta. As the store marks its 50th Anniversary, its story is ultimately one of continuity: a steady thread of faith, hospitality, and service woven through changing ownership and generations in a culture of constant motion and consumerism. Loaves & Fishes remains what it has always been; a place where the sacred meets everyday life and where hope is offered one encounter at a time. www.loavesandfishesbookchurch@gmail.com

With more Okanagan seniors choosing to stay in their homes longer, Brian and Amanda Jensen of Norsemen Developments have launched "Safe at Home Okanagan", a practical home readiness check business designed to help seniors, families, and caregivers identify everyday safety and maintenance concerns before they become expensive or stressful. During a 60-to-90-minute calm, practical walkthrough of a property, homeowners, families, landlords and adult children, receive experienced, plain-English guidance on visible items such as loose steps, stairs, railings, walkways, lighting, aging decks, drainage, entry points, furnace filters and other commonly, yet overlooked maintenance concerns. Small home concerns can become huge ones that lead to expensive, stressful, and harder to deal with matters in the future. Safe at Home Okanagan’s goal is clarity, not pressure. Norsemen is not a formal home inspection company, medical assessment, or renovation sales pitch company. It is a practical set of eyes on a home, so the family knows what needs attention and what does not. Instead, each visit concludes with a simple Traffic Light Report with Red, meaning fix now, Yellow, plan ahead and Green, good for now. This helps families understand priorities, avoid unnecessary work, and move forward with confidence to plan for future maintenance. A digital copy is given for family members. For more information or to arrange a Safe at Home Okanagan home readiness check, contact Brian at 250-351-7949 or visit www.norsemendevelopments.com.
