Biography Fiona Neal is a West Kelowna artist working primarily in acrylics on canvas. Studying at Bourneville College of Art, then specializing in painting at Sheffield Hallam University, Fiona was awarded a Bachelor of Fine Arts with First Class Honours, the only First Class degree awarded in her department that graduating year. After emigrating to Canada from the UK in 2003 and having her family, Fiona is spending more and more time painting from her home studio and has established herself firmly within the Okanagan art community. Fiona’s work is quickly gaining popularity; many of her pieces have been bought for private and corporate collections in Canada, Europe and South America. A founding member of Westside Artists group, and an award winning Active Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, Fiona is passionate about the link between spontaneous creativity and a deep self connection, which in turn can promote improved health and well being. Artists Statement I create large vibrant abstract paintings that use colour to explore the portrayal of my own energy. Intuitive techniques form a large part of my studio practice. Although I start from a place of freedom, I do impose structure and the rules of composition, colour and form, as needed. Through this process I find my place, and have discovered a deep self connection, which I share with others through my PAINT 4 SELF© workshops. As an antidote to an often chaotic world I enjoy the process of losing and regaining control of the canvas as I paint. The challenge for me is to create a piece that still has the energy that comes from letting go, but ultimately the balance of form that it needs to work as a great painting. This juxtaposition between the wild and the tamed makes for an exciting process.
