Watch Our Visit to Canyon Falls Park in Kelowna

Story update - we received this message from the City of Kelowna.

“Before you go, be advised that this is a very steep, advanced level hike. The rope seen in the video below has been removed by the City of Kelowna due to the risk hazard and staff are currently working to establish a safer trail to the bottom. Hikers should also be aware that parking is limited in Canyon Falls Court. Cars parked less than 3 metres from driveways will be ticketed and/or towed. There is additional parking on Westridge Drive and Stewart Road West.” - City of Kelowna - Comments or questions on this should be directed to the City of Kelowna at ask@kelowna.ca or 250 469-8500

If you like hiking in the Okanagan during the summer months there are several spectacular places to check out that include beautiful waterfalls. Not to be missed are the impressive falls at Canyon Falls Park located just above the Crawford subdivision in Kelowna.

The hike is listed at moderate to difficult and has a distance of 2 km from where you park your car. We have some pictures below and a video to help you be more familiar before you set out. Watch the video as it will give you a good sense of what to expect.

The creek and the falls are located in the canyon below.

To get there, take Gordon Drive south and turn left on to Dehart Road. Follow Dehart Road and turn right on Crawford Road. Take a right on Westridge Drive, right on Canyon Ridge Crescent and then right on Canyon Falls Court. There is a small cul-de-sac at the end. Look for the trail head and a small pathway that leads to Crawford Falls.

To get to the lower falls takes about 20 minutes but is quite difficult. However, the reward at the end is the 20 foot falls. If you continue about 10 more minutes after that, you will see the larger falls (40 feet).

Click the video embedded below to watch the video.

The first set of falls that you will find at the base of your descent.

Same falls from a different angle.

The path down will lead you to a very steep area where you will need to use the ropes provided to keep your footing as you make your way down to the falls. We would suggest you wear very good hiking shoes and use gloves for the ropes to avoid rope burn. A backpack for a light lunch and a water bottle would also make sense.

You will need both hands to use the ropes, so anything you want to take with you should be in a well fitted backpack. There are very steep banks that you will need to walk along by the creek from one set of falls to the next, so be careful. You should be in good shape for this hike as well. Don't try this as your first outdoor experience. This is also back country, so be prepared for wildlife encounters. Avoid going alone.
