Tucked away in the heart of downtown is Kelowna’s newest restaurant that combines unique elements to create one groovy environment.
The space will seemingly transport you to a premium dive bar on the Sunset Strip with its wicked decor, all the while filling your heart and stomach with pizza parlour goodness.
Located at 231 Bernard Avenue, Jack’s Pizza & Liquor is well on it’s way to becoming the latest hotspot with its thin crust zaa made with locally sourced ingredients, craft cocktails and Insta-worthy content.
Having seemingly popped up out of thin air, Jack’s first welcomed locals into the space over Canada Day long weekend but hosted their grand opening this weekend.
Vibes for days co-owner, Craig Lewis (who also owns Salt & Brick, and the late Bacaro), says they built the space with the goal of creating the Okanagan’s most Instagrammable room in mind — and they may have achieved it.
“We wanted to hopefully create a comfortable environment where people can just let loose,” said Lewis.
With one wall covered from floor to ceiling in iconic album covers and the other black brick with famous musician’s mugshots to pay homage to music legends. The theme is one that will last forever, much like the music it is dedicated to.
“Music just creates such a great atmosphere, we wanted to really have that down-home, chill vibe,”
As for the menu, you’ll be able to find scrumptious and hearty pasta dishes no prob, but their California-style pizza with an aim for highlighting local ingredients is the main staple.
From their chef created “Pizza for the People,” which donates $1 from every sale to a local charity, to the “Blanco, Verde” with apple, truffle gouda and granola, these far from average pizza’s are perfect for sharing with your crew.
Pegged for having the biggest liquor selection in Kelowna with 200 bottles and counting, Jack’s kept one aspect the same as its predecessor Bacaro - the importance of a delicious, affordable, craft cocktail.
From signature drinks that feature local spirits like the "Detroit Rock City," "Major Tom" and "November Rain" carrying on the musical theme, to craft beers from local breweries like BNA, there is a sip on the menu for everyone to savour.
Aside from offering a rad atmosphere and great food, another goal of the restaurant is to be more accessible to locals year-round by staying open late all week long.
“Something that drives us nuts about Kelowna is the seasonality; our downtown is never going to grow if that’s the style of business we have, so our whole vision here is to be open late seven days a week,”
Jack’s is now open to welcome all the pizza-loving, music fanatics in town. Their hours of operation are 5 p.m. to midnight Sunday to Thursday and 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
