Jody Bruce

What do you always find yourself saying?
“Oh dear” and “live every day you only have so many in this world”

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select and why?
Jaime Oliver or Gordon Ramsey…. My other passion besides my painting is cooking. I wanted to be a chef and have my own restaurant but the hours are grueling. Somehow the chefs’ listed have found a balance of family and work.

If you were to receive any existing public award, what award would you like to win?
I don’t think people need to be awarded to have recognition …also I am terrified of being the centre of attention.

If you could spend a day with any historical figure, who would you choose and why?
A day with any great artist … I would love to see how different their studios are. And also have a peek into the process. The creative “kitchen" as you would call it.

Who inspires you?
My little girl. She was just 2 lbs. and 11 oz. at birth. She is a survivor.

What are three things on your bucket list?
1. Go on a round the world tour with my husband and daughter
2. To build my dream house
3. To live on the ocean

If you had an enormous yacht, what would you name it?
“Never enough Shoes”

If you could foresee a single day of your future in its entirety, what date would you select?
Tomorrow. You can plan a day but it can completely change good or bad without any control.

What are you passionate about?
My family, my art, and music. It is a big part of my art. I listen to very loud contemporary classical music when I paint.

What has been your favourite day of your life, up to this point?
My wedding day. It was the day I married my best friend.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
My little girl

Where is your favourite place to dine in Kelowna? What do you like about it?
That’s a hard one! RauDZ, Zabb, and Chutney. But really, my own kitchen filled with loved ones eating homemade food.

What is your favourite activity or event in Kelowna? Why?
Anything on the water. It always gives you a different perspective on this city and the surrounding areas.

I am a contemporary landscape painter.

What is your mission?
To follow my passion and be true to my style.

If you could achieve one thing within your field, what would it be?
To have my signature annd my work recognized as great female Canadian artist now and as a part of history.

Where do you want your business/organization to be in five years?
I would love to have a studio/gallery in Vancouver.

Who do you consider to be a forerunner within your field?
The amazing Emily Carr.

What would you like to say to your employees/volunteers?
I work by myself. Christmas parties are pretty quiet!! Although my husband is my biggest fan and has recently built me my beautiful studio/gallery space. I would say a big thank you to him!

How does your business/organization impact the community?
I hope my paintings make people happy. When I paint it is truly one of my happiest places to be.

If you were trapped in an elevator with several wealthy investors from any field, which field would you want them to be experts in? What would say to them/talk about?
I wouldn’t want to be trapped in an elevator … I am claustrophobic. Unless someone packed a picnic with wine and cheese and bread.

If I could change one thing about Kelowna, it would be:
We need an Ikea otherwise that, we truly live in a beautiful city.

Watching it grow.
