In Focus is our gift to the community. A way for us to help show our recognition for the people, businesses and organizations that help make our city great. The team at KelownaNow.com is passionate about this community and the people that make it amazing. We want to show our friends, neighbours, family and colleagues that we notice them and the fabulous things that they do.
What is your name?
What do you always find yourself saying?
Fear is an illusion.
If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
My Mom. Her diligence for always learning more and being a better mother, grandmother, wife and friend to many never ceases to amaze me.
If you were to receive any existing public award, what award would you like to win?
Any award that would relate to helping women be all that they can be. My greatest daily award is seeing the smile on my patients faces when they achieve something they didn't believe their body could do or when they smile from finally being pain free.
If you could spend a day with any historical figure, who would you choose and why?
Paramahansa Yogananda. He endured great obstacles and difficulties to bring the true practices of yoga and its tradition of meditation from India to the Western world in 1920. He was a spiritual wonder who preached the science of quantum physics.
Who inspires you?
Marianne Williamson, Pema Chodron, and Jon Mundy
What are three things on your bucket list?
1. Teach my kids to scuba dive and take them with my boyfriend diving with as many beautiful ocean creatures as possible in Bonaire, Cozumel, and the Great Barrier Reef. Being able to swim free in the ocean with whale sharks, dolphins, and manta rays would be a dream come true.
2. Take a year off and spend a year living in a small village in France with my two children so they can experience the joy of French food and culture.
3. Go to a developing country and volunteer as a physiotherapist helping women have safer birth practices and pelvic health.
If you had an enormous yacht, what would you name it?
Petitechickadee. Chickadees are one of my favourite birds as they are cute and tiny but uncharacteristically strong and tenacious.
If you could foresee a single day of your future in its entirety, what date would you select?
I'm a strong believer in quantum physics which states that time is an illusion. Our past, present, and future is all happening simultaneously. Thus, I prefer to go moment by moment and try not to look too far into the future.
What are you passionate about?
I'm most passionate about health and physical activity. I love doing anything outdoors and having a chance to connect with nature. I'm most happy hiking and enjoying the silence of the mountains in Kelowna with my two kids and my two energetic whippets. Any activities that involve rhythmical breathing bring me joy. These include yoga, running, meditation and scuba diving.
What has been your favourite day of your life, up to this point?
The birth of my son and daughter were my two most challenging, emotional, and amazing days of my life. Becoming a mother instantly made me feel more connected to my own mother, my grandmother, and the amazing spirit of all women.
What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Being a mommy to two beautiful children and opening my own women's health physiotherapy clinic.
Where is your favourite place to dine in Kelowna? What do you like about it?
Dining anywhere outdoors on a patio especially if it's on the lake. Tree Brewery on Water Street and the new Cactus Club on the waterfront. Bliss bakery I love for their coffee and gluten free treats.
What is your favourite activity or event in Kelowna? Why?
The Fall Okanagan Wine Festival never ceases to amaze me. We are blessed in Kelowna to have world class wine makers and wineries.
What is the name of your business/organization?
What does your business/organization do?
I specialize in treating pelvic floor disorders in both men and women. I treat pelvic pain, urinary/fecal incontinence, and organ prolapse.
Where can people find you or your business online?
Where can people find your business on Facebook?
How do people connect with you on Linkedin?
Corinne Wade Physio
What is your mission?
To offer professional and compassionate physiotherapy to men and women with pelvic pain and pelvic dysfunction.
If you could achieve one thing within your field, what would it be?
Breaking down the barriers and taboos around pelvic floor health which includes sexual health, bowel/bladder health, and current birthing practices.
Where do you want your business/organization to be in five years?
If I could wave a magic wand and tap into unlimited financial resources I would love to open a multidisciplinary women's health and birthing clinic.
Who do you consider to be a forerunner within your field?
Jessica Drummond (USA)
What three qualities do you feel that your business/organization exemplifies?
What would you like to say to your employees/volunteers?
Thank you for your continuous support and positive energy.
How does your business/organization impact the community?
Before I opened Kare Physiotherapy, many women said they had to travel to Vancouver to access pelvic floor physiotherapy as the services weren't readily available here. Now women can access the care they need here in Kelowna.
If you were trapped in an elevator with several wealthy investors from any field, which field would you want them to be experts in? What would say to them/talk about?
Firstly I would ask them to sit in a circle with me so we could have a more intimate, relaxed conversation. I would offer them chocolate as I always have a stash of chocolate in my purse. I would want them to be experts in the fields of mindfulness, psychology and metaphysics as I'm always curious about the "big" questions in life. Questions like "why are we here", "how can we all be truly happy" and "how can we all connect on a worldly level and end suffering."
If I could change one thing about Kelowna, it would be:
I wouldn't change anything. I've lived in various cities around the world and Kelowna definitely has it all.
What do you think makes Kelowna great?
Where else can our children feel safe, have access to beautiful lakes, rivers, mountains, ski hills, and have ample space to connect with nature? Where else do we have access to fresh organic food, orchards, wineries, and microbreweries? We are so lucky to live here.
My nomination for the In Focus spotlight is:
Krista King from Karma Fitness
Some general comments I would like to share are:
I feel blessed to work in a profession where I am both an educator and a therapist. I feel my role as a physiotherapist is to empower my patients with the tools they need to heal themselves. I give them the confidence to know that they are the directors of their healthcare and that I can facilitate their healing process. I work with many women throughout their life span. I help with pain they may have during pregnancy, help them prepare for an optimal birth, and help them recover postpartum. I also help women going through pelvic health challenges during the pre and post-menopausal phase of their life.
