In Focus | Dexter the Goldendoodle of Fortune Marketing

In Focus is our gift to the community. A way for us to help show our recognition for the people, businesses and organizations that help make our city great. The team at KelownaNow.com is passionate about this community and the people that make it amazing. We want to show our friends, neighbours, family and colleagues that we notice them and the fabulous things that they do.

What is your name?
Dexter the Goldendoodle.

Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?
I was born in 100 Mile House but have now lived in Kelowna for 7 years.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
I rarely meet a person I don't like, but I have to say, my parents (Don & Holly) top the list of my favorite people. I have to admit, they spoil me, but isn't that what parents are for?

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Paris, France - I'm obsessed with cheese and I know I would find a delicious selection of cheese there.

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
CIBC on Bernard for the friendly staff, and best of all, the treats they always have on hand for me.

What is your favourite activity?
I love going to City Park and chasing the squirrels there. It's a really great workout, both for me and the squirrels…

If you had to choose: pizza, tacos, or burgers?
Definitely burgers, I'm a real carnivore.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
You may have noticed by now that I'm a big foodie. One day at work, I noticed one of my colleagues had brought a nice lunch with them. I waited for them to leave the room and I ate their lunch. They returned when I was half done, and it was pretty embarrassing

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
I like to get out of the office and take a walk downtown each day. I'm always inspired by the people I meet on the street - Kelowna is full of great people and I've made friendships to last a lifetime.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Technically it's my parent's memory, but it's one of my favorite stories. I was actually adopted at a few weeks old and my birth family told my new parents that I was really well-behaved, I would only grow to be 50 pounds, and I would never shed. 11 years later, I'm the life of the party, I weigh 100 pounds, and I shed EVERYWHERE. I dare you to wear black around me!

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
The Kelowna SPCA is one of the causes most near and dear to my heart. There are a lot of cats, dogs, and other animals out there who aren't as lucky as I am and it feels great to give back and support the SPCA to improve the lives of animals in need. My team and I have participated in the Paws for a Cause event and have held numerous fundraisers for the SPCA. The staff and volunteers are very dedicated and I appreciate all of their efforts.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
If it were up to me, nobody would ever go hungry. I'm never lacking for a meal or a tasty treat and I wish everyone could live like that. I'm really excited about the Kelowna Food Bank "1 Bag Challenge" that Mayor Basran started this summer and I hope everyone takes part to help families in the Okanagan.

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
Swimming in Okanagan Lake. It's so refreshing on a hot day.

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
I like to go to Bosley's for a spa day every now and then - they give me a bath and a fresh haircut and I feel like a million bucks!

Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
I have a really great home and I would love for every pet and human to have a roof over their head too.

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I work like a dog, a real workaholic. I'm down at the Fortune Marketing Real Estate Gallery every day, greeting people and being the best CDO (Chief Dog Officer) I can be.

What is the name of your business/organization?
Fortune Marketing.

What does your business do?
We specialize in the marketing & sales of new construction real estate developments in the Okanagan. If you're a developer or you're looking for a new home, we can help!

How do people connect with you through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest)
Facebook

Where can people find your business online?
fortunemarketing.ca

Why did you get into/start this business?
Kelowna is one of the most desirable places to live in North America. Naturally, developers want to build here and they're experts on construction but not always experienced in sales or marketing. That's where we step in!

What is the goal of your business?
Our goal is to take the stress of branding and sales from developers so they can focus on the build process and to provide quality service to clients who are seeking new real estate as an investment, vacation home, or primary residence.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
I love to support local business whenever possible. Small business and locally-owned shops and services make our city unique. They keep entrepreneurship alive, they are run by people engaged in the well-being of the community, and they boost the local economy.

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
Crystal & Steve from The Little Hobo restaurant - they work so hard, they make tasty meals, and they are incredibly nice people.

My nomination for the In Focus spotlight is:
Diana Dors from the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce. She's a great lady doing awesome things for our business community.

Other information you would like to share:
You can visit our team in Downtown Kelowna at the Fortune Marketing Real Estate Gallery at 305 Lawrence Ave, weekdays 9-5pm.

We encourage you to leave your comments and words of support below and submit your own nomination by clicking HERE. You are also welcome to submit a form of your own by clicking HERE. Thank you, Kelowna.
