Amanda Resener
Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?
Born in Sherwood Park, Alberta, my family and I moved to Kelowna in 1995 and lived here for 2 years. Next we moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan where I finished high school and University. After having enough of the -40 degree winters there, I returned to Kelowna in 2010 and haven’t looked back.
Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
Definitely my daughter. She is a sweet, funny, caring toddler and I absolutely cherish every moment we spend together. Watching her learn and grow is amazing and she helps me take a step back to appreciate the little things in life.
If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Dubai fascinates me! The mixture of diversity, tradition, and innovation is intriguing. Oh, and of course the shopping!
What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
I love Nooks Design. They make the most beautiful booties and outfits for babies and toddlers, selling at the local Farmer’s Market and out of their studio. Their items are so unique.
What is your favourite activity?
I like camping with my family and exploring different areas of B.C.
If you had to choose: pizza, tacos, or burgers?
Tacos...with pizza a close second and burgers not far behind!
What is a hidden gem you enjoy in the Okanagan?
The Kelowna Farmer’s Market. We go almost every weekend, stocking up on fresh produce and locally made goods that you can’t find anywhere else.
What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
When I was in dental school, I had the opportunity to do volunteer dental work with underprivileged children in Vietnam with no access to dental services. Their deep appreciation and positive attitudes were inspiring.
Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
It has to be when my family was travelling in our trailer in the early 90s and one of our tires popped right outside of a vet clinic. We pulled in and the fellow who helped us fix our tire had a young chocolate labrador that he couldn’t keep anymore. My sister and I begged and pleaded with our parents to take the dog home. My mom caved pretty quickly, but it took some major negotiating and a flood of waterworks to convince my dad. He finally gave in, and we returned home with our family dog with whom we made many memories!
Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I am hoping to volunteer with the Kelowna Gospel Mission Dental Clinic, to help serve those in the community who can’t afford dental care.
If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
Stop the senseless killing of people by other people.
What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
I love touring local wineries and taking in the amazing views we are so fortunate to be able to enjoy.
Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
I would grab a chai latte and a bite to eat at Hillcrest Farm Market.
Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
If there was a way to build a traffic bypass around Kelowna, it would be so helpful to alleviate the traffic congestion and keep things moving.
If you were granted one wish for work or in life, what would it be?
Health and happiness for my family and loved ones.
Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
My favourite hobby is finding old wood furniture and painting it to give it new life.

Why did you get into/start this business?
I always had positive dental experiences growing up, and since I was young I have known that I wanted to be able to provide that for other people. Dentistry is a unique combination of both art and science. Putting those skills to use to determine the balance between optimum engineering and esthetics is both challenging and rewarding.
What is the goal of your business?
We want to provide high quality dental treatment by utilizing the skill sets of each of our team members. Combining different areas of expertise, we all offer something unique and together we want to make sure that every patient is completely taken care of. We pride ourselves on utilizing the most innovative dental techniques and materials.
What has been your biggest struggle either in work or life?
Figuring out a good work-life balance. Wanting to do my absolute best at both being a mom and being a dentist.
If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
Hindsight is 20/20, so I think it’s normal to reflect on things we could have done differently. But overall I’m proud of my accomplishments and satisfied with my decisions which have led me to where I am today.
Why do you think it is important to shop local?
Local businesses give a community its flavour. Shopping local supports the uniqueness of Kelowna, helps support local families, and makes sure the money stays in the community.
