In Focus | Natashia Bose-Roberts of Okanagan Dentistry

In Focus is our gift to the community. A way for us to help show our recognition for the people, businesses, and organizations that help make our city great. The team at KelownaNow.com is passionate about this community and the people that make it amazing. We want to show our friends, neighbours, family and colleagues that we notice them and the fabulous things that they do.

What is your name?

Natashia Bose-Roberts.

Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?

I’m originally from Kelowna but have been in Montreal for the last 5 years, we just moved back this July and I couldn’t be happier to be back in the Okanagan.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?

My favourite person to spend time with is my fiancé Tyler Krenz! Every day is an adventure with him.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
That is a very tough question as I love to travel and there are so many places I still haven’t been. I think the top of my list would have to be Iceland. I’ve seen some photos of the most breathtaking landscapes and would love to experience it for myself.

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?

Raudz is my favourite local restaurant and Alchemy is a great store for home decor and gifts.

What is your favourite activity?

Spending time with friends and family.

If you had to choose: pizza, tacos, or burgers?

Tacos every time!

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?

I’ll never tell, I don’t want to relive it.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?

Joining the team at Okanagan Dentistry. Ian and Evan’s passion for what they do and their commitment to excellence in their work is truly inspiring.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.

Camping with my family every summer in Quebec and Kelowna.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?

My previous volunteer work has largely involved travelling to developing countries and providing free dental care. Now that I have returned to Kelowna, I would like to focus on helping the people in our own community who have limited access to dental care for various reasons. For example, at Okanagan Dentistry we recently installed a ceiling lift in one of our treatment rooms to provide patients with reduced mobility easy access to the dentist chair. My colleagues and I at Okanagan Dentistry are all passionate about our community involvement, we look for areas of need and do our best to address those needs. We have all contributed by setting up or working at outreach and/or free dental clinics locally and internationally.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?

The economic disparity between different countries around the world. Access to adequate nutrition, education and health care should be universal, not something enjoyed by only a small percentage of the world.

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?

Boating in the summer and wine touring!

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
Moksha yoga is my happy place and a great way to de-stress.

Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?

The city has taken on some great initiatives to revitalize the downtown core and I think that has been great for the local economy. To further this, I think addressing homelessness in Kelowna, and providing more low-income housing, would be another great step for our city.

If you were granted one wish for work or in life, what would it be?

One wish would be to never stop learning and advancing my skill set throughout my career, while still being able to have a great work-life balance.

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.

I’ve always loved horses and have recently started taking riding lessons.

What is the name of your business/organization?

Okanagan Dentistry.

What does your business do?

Our office provides the full range of dental services. We also have a special interest in other areas of dentistry like implant surgery, Invisalign orthodontic treatment, periodontal surgery and comprehensive esthetic dentistry so, as a team, we are able to meet pretty well anyone’s dental needs. Okanagan dentistry is a team of three dentists, myself, Dr. Ian Leitch, and Dr. Evan Wiens, who work with a great team of support staff. Ian, Evan and I strive to keep our dental services on the leading edge of technology and techniques while also focusing on service and value. We are fortunate to have three dentists who are equally passionate about dentistry, learning, and always improving our skill set.

How do people connect with you through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest)

Where can people find your business online?

okanagandentistry.com

Why did you get into/start this business?

I wanted a career in health care where I could help people in a very tangible way. After spending time with my childhood dentist, Dr. Peter Mitchell, I knew this career was for me. The hands-on nature of dentistry was very appealing and I was excited about the impact you can have on people’s lives when you provide them with a positive experience at the dentist.

What has been your biggest struggle either in work or life?

Having friends and family spread across Canada and not being able to spend as much time with them as I would like.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?

I am very happy that I was able to achieve all of my goals thus far and have learned a lot along the way. I would not change a thing.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?

Kelowna has a vibrant community of local businesses and supporting them is very important for economic growth and development. In addition, locally sourced food is not only better for the environment but nothing beats Okanagan fruit and vegetables!

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!

I would like to give a shout out to my mom, Earllene Roberts. She is UBC’s disability resource centre manager and will be finishing her PhD in disability studies this summer, her hard work and determination have always inspired me.

My nomination for the In Focus spotlight is:

Tyler Krenz, CA, Accounting Manager specializing in local owner operated business advisory for Grant Thornton in Kelowna.

Other information you would like to share:

Our office is open Monday to Friday, as well as Tuesday evenings to accommodate people who can’t get time off from work. We have also recently built “Fort Floss” in our reception area for our younger, and younger at heart, patients. We are welcoming new patients and would be happy to meet you and discuss your dental needs! Thank-you!
