In Focus | Sherry Rothwell

Meet Sherry. She is from Winnipeg but has lived in Kelowna for four years!

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
That would be Lisa, we share a love of nutrition, delish food and personal growth. I love that our time spent together is productive with creative projects, meditation and mindset work infused with Canoe Coffee or Summerhill Baco Noir in hand!

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
For clothes, it is a tie between Georgie Girl Vintage and Frock & Fellow. Restaurant-wise it would be Krafty Kitchen, yum!

Describe yourself in one word.
Passionate.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Hawaii for the sun and sand and I keep thinking about Italy too.

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
Femme Fatale Burlesque classes at Oranj Fitness and performing at Sapphire!

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
The first nutrition video I ever did, I said 'um' about 50 times or more in five minutes! One of my friends who works in media messaged me on Facebook saying, 'your energy and message are really great, but did you have any idea how often you say 'um'?'

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
The two most memorable and breathtaking days of my life were the magical experiences of home birthing my two beautiful children and laying eyes on them for the first time!

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
They both have to do with grannies and food. I loved spending time with my extended family at the farm. There was so many of us it always felt like a party! Also, those quieter times watching my Grandma Mueller bake bread from scratch and putter around the kitchen. Other times spent with my Grandma and Grandpa Rothwell and our smaller extended family. We used to get together on weekends and watch show's like The Porter Wagner Show, Hee Haw and the Lawrence Welk show. I was mesmerized by the talents of Dolly Parton, Amy Grant and Crystal Gayle! At midnight my grandma would serve 'lunch', which was basically a plethora of cheeses, deli meats and sandwiches! As a kid, it was so much fun to stay up late and eat at midnight!

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I give away a ton of free nutrition advice through my blog, social media pages and Facebook groups in the form of educational inspirational and motivational how-to's, posts, videos and live-streams!

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
Myself. If we all work on bettering ourselves as individuals and positively impact those around us, the ripple effect of that is a better world.

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
Go to the lake, creek, hiking trail or Bean Scene.

Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
Kelowna could really use a cosy late night after event coffee shop. Even Starbucks closes at 10:00 pm around here!

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
I love Kelowna! What could be better than having a lake right in the middle of downtown with mountain views and such friendly smiling faces around!

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
1. Publish a book
2. Do a speaking tour
3. Grow most of my own food and herbal medicine.

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I used to be a size 16 on a 5'4 frame.

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
Facebook.

What is the name of your business/organization?
Nutrition Wisdom.

Why did you get into/start this business?
After healing myself using food as medicine, I 've had a passion for showing others how they too can take their health into their own hands and heal themselves, by addressing the root causes of their health concerns, using a non-toxic drug-free approach.

What is the goal of your business?
I specialize in helping woman entrepreneurs let go of the extra weight, so that they can finally have the confidence to be seen in videos, get on stage and strut their stuff in front of the camera!

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
I'm a workaholic! I love my work!

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
I would do many things differently but you just don't know what you don't know! A lot of times we discover what works by first learning what doesn't. I use my mistakes as learning experiences and love to share business advice with other health coaches.

What do you always find yourself saying?
'Start with inner work if you want to change your outer world.'

Tell us your best piece of life advice.
Be hard on problems, not people, including yourself.

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
That would be Dr. Joe Dispenza. I am totally geeking out on his work right now. Currently, I am reading 'Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself' for the second time this month and taking notes! Plus, I heard him say in an interview that he is really into animals like I am! I would love to spend the day at his place riding horses and cuddling cats while talking brain waves and consciousness.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
To support our neighbours to be financially abundant instead of giving our money to faceless corporations and to minimize the pollution of unnecessary transportation, finally because small businesses generally provide better quality and service.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Getting over my fear of public speaking so that I could make the difference in the world that I came here to make.

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
Love the new co-operative owned grocery store and cafe called One Big Table on St Paul Street. The food is delicious, the service is warm and their chocolate chai latte is to die for. And of course, because all the groceries are from local Okanagan businesses!

My choice for the KelownaNow In Focus spotlight is:
Dr. Vicky Bentz. She's a local naturopath who owns the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition, where I also happen to be an instructor! She owns a very stylish vitamin injection bar with all sorts of remedies for what ails ya!

Some general comments I would like to share are:
If you are seeking a natural, sustainable and permanent approach to weight loss, I can help you do that without giving up the rich, sweet, creamy comfort foods you love! We won't be counting calories, carbs, protein or fat grams and best of all, exercise is optional. I take an inside-out approach to permanent weight loss, meaning we find the root cause of woman’s inability to lose weight and keep it off. The women who work with me lose more than just the weight, but take a load off their shoulders too! If that sounds like just what you've been searching for and want to chat with me, I would LOVE to offer you a ’Weightless Breakthrough Session' my treat! This is your opportunity to let me help you solve the problem of struggling with how to lose weight and actually keep it off whether you are obese, like I was, or you are just wanting to lose that last 15 pounds and finally fit into your skinny jeans again! To get more information you can simply e-mail me at support@nutritionwisdom.ca to book one of these sessions. Space is limited!
