Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?
I was born in Kelowna, but grew up in Fort St John. After spending a few years in Alberta going to school, I have been back in Kelowna for 13 years.

Describe yourself in one word.
Multi-Hyphenated.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
If I could go anywhere in the world right now, I'd love to visit Iceland. I know it's a bit trendy right now to visit, but that's because it's so beautiful. As a photographer, I'm sure I would come home with a lifetimes worth of images. But, I'd be sure to photograph more than the numerous waterfalls, there's so much beauty throughout the country to explore. Aside from that, I'm looking forward to visiting the Maritimes this spring.

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
If I'm not out hiking and looking for my next photo opportunity, my favourite activity in Kelowna is either golfing or experiencing our wineries and breweries. I'm lucky enough to live in one of the best places in Canada for either!

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
If I could change one thing in the world, I'd make travel more accessible and affordable. Some of the best lessons and experiences I have had have been through travelling to other countries and experiencing other cultures and cuisines.

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
If I needed to sneak away to spend some time alone around Kelowna, I would definitely grab my camera and visit any of our regional parks and get outside.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
Three things on my bucket list are: to travel as much as possible, to take more photos, and to never stop learning.

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
My website: www.tyboakephotography.com
Instagram: @bo4key

What is the name of your business/organization?
Ty Boake Photography

Why did you get into/start this business?
I started this business because I wanted to share my photos with as many people as possible. It's a great feeling when someone sees one of my photos and it reminds them of something from their past or childhood and you can see the memories coming back, or it gives them a sense of adventure and they want to travel to where the photo was taken.

What is the goal of your business?
The goal of my business is to share my work with as many people as possible.

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
My biggest struggle has been fighting imposter syndrome. Each photograph is like putting a piece of yourself out for everyone to see, and no matter how much positive feedback you receive, it's too easy to second guess yourself or to compare your work to other photographers and feel like you don't belong. It's definitely something I try to overcome all the time.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
If I could start all over again, I would try to collaborate with other photographers and share with as many people as I could right from the beginning. It's the best way to learn and meet new people.

What do you always find yourself saying?
Ugh, I wish I was out shooting right now!

Tell us your best piece of life advice.
I recently heard this quote from Matt D'Avella and I think it's really important: "Yes, there is a cost to chasing after your dreams, but it pales in comparison to the cost of not doing it."

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Jared Polin. He's so enthusiastic about photography and approaches it in a fun, no nonsense kind of way.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
The only way we all get ahead is by supporting each other.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
My proudest accomplishment as a photographer was having a photo published in British Columbia magazine and winning the category it was entered in.

Some general comments I would like to share:
Please, head down to Bean Scene from now until June and check out some of my photos and buy a coffee or lunch. They are fantastic at supporting local artists and helping them showcase their work.
