Courtney Mitchell is a local Kelowna girl who has proved that following your dreams really does pay off. In pursuit of a modelling career, Courtney has spent time living in LA and was able to create an outstanding modeling portfolio. With dreams of one day walking in NY Fashion Week, Courtney is definitely one local to watch out for!

What are you passionate about?

I'm really passionate about food. I love food when it's presented properly and infused with succulent flavours and spices.

I'm passionate about modelling and beauty, i admire all forms of beauty, from art to dance and of course; the female figure. As a professional model, I have lots of photographers that contact me asking me to work with them. I love working with photographers that know their stuff with lighting and do more than just pick up a camera and fix everything in photoshop. Photoshop has changed the industry immensely because it requires less effort now than in the earlier days of film. Everything is done digitally now.

What has been your favourite day of your life, up to this point?

I recently visited New York City. I had a blast, one day I ate at Chef Ramsey's Restaurant; Maze at The London Hotel, saw the New York City Ballet Preform, and went Shopping, perfect day in my opinion!!!

What has been your proudest accomplishment?

I stayed in LA for 4 months pursuing my dream of modelling. It was tough, I spent a lot of time alone, I dealt with a lot of rejection, but I didn't give up, I am so proud of myself for that. I still plan on going back to work with one of my all-time favourite photographers, David Mecey. He had a lot to do with jump starting my career. I know I will eventually end up working in Toronto and New York, where the Major Markets are.

If you were trapped in an elevator with several wealthy investors from any field, which field would you want them to be experts in? What would say to them/talk about?

Oooh I would love to be trapped in an elevator on Wall Street and pick the brains of some wealthy investment bankers. I love business, business is a language in itself, and I understand it well. I always look to successful people for advice.

Where is your favourite place to dine in Kelowna?

Bunches Bistro for breakfast

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?

Wakesurfing on the lake in the summertime

If I could change 1 thing about Kelowna, it would be:

The drug scene, it's gotten a little out of hand in recent years.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?

The weather is great in summer. You don't have to deal with a whole lot of traffic, and we have been fortunate to have some great leaders in the community like Mayor Walter Gray and Sharon Shepard that work so hard to make Kelowna a safe, fun, and efficient place to live. It is the ultimate Canadian tourist destination.


Some general comments I would like to share are:

I know it's so cliche, but don't give up on your dreams. Set goals to work towards them each day, it takes time, but if you keep going YOU WILL get there. I try to set goals for everything from workouts to household chores, I have a "to do" list on my iphone and I try to check off at least 3-4 things everyday. I am striving for excellence in all areas of my life, not just modelling.
