An Ontario man has bought a chocolate factory and turned it into a medical marijuana factory making him the Willy Wonka of Weed.
Chuck Rifici purchased the old Hersey’s factory last September just south of Ottawa and in January his company, Tweed Inc, received federal approval to use the space to sell medical marijuana. This makes Rifici one of Canada’s first entrepreneurs in the field worth an estimated $1.3 billion. Along with a team of 20 employees the company hopes to have their product ready by April 1st. On that day new legislation will take effect allowing medical marijuana users to grow their own supply.
There are nearly 40,000 medical marijuana users in Canada and in order to legally obtain pot they will have to rely on large scale producers who are licenced by the government. Work at the former Hersey factory has been ongoing for the past six months as plants have a four month lifecycle.
